They will be taking us through their experiences and insights into how safety programs can be used to change a company’s culture as well as potential pitfalls and sticking points.

Dawn Bollen:

A Safety Specialist and Internal BAPP® Consultant at E&J Gallo Winery, Dawn walked through the Gallo Winery doors in Modesto over 20 years ago. Over the next two decades she has taken on various roles; Production Team Lead, Safety and Training Team Lead and finally her current position as an Internal Consultant.

Dawn is a Certified – BAPP® Technology Specialist. She received her Certification of Behavioral Accident Prevention Process (BAPP) from Dekra Insight, Oxnard.

  • Develop and implemented corporate wide curriculum for OSHA programs.
  • Develop, implement and delivered training programs.
  • 15+ years’ experience in education/training
  • 16+ years’ experience in Behavioral Accident Prevention Process

 

Ken Karn

Ken Karn is the Sr. Corporate Safety Specialist for E&J Gallo Winery. His experience is rooted in management and supervision within E&J Gallo Winery. He started his career at Gallo in 1975 and has held numerous positions in the Operations/Production area including support staff, first line supervisor, Shift Superintendent, and several middle management positions in the Warehouse. He was the Warehouse Safety & Training Manager for 10 years where he was responsible for all the safety and general training needs of over 300 employees. His experience isn’t limited to safety or warehousing. He also has numerous professional trainer certifications in effective leadership and improving/developing teamwork skills.

20 years ago, Ken began the journey of becoming a Certified Behavioral Safety Internal Consultant. He is certified to teach and train employees at E&J Gallo Winery in the founding principles behind and the intricate details within behavioral safety as defined by BST® (Behavioral Science Technology®) and Dekra Insight.

 

 

 

September 2018 Forum – Heat Illness

Join us on Thursday, September 6 where we will be discussing Heat Illness.David Hornung, Senior Safety Engineer for Cal/OSHA, will be discussing California’s heat illness prevention regulation.  Starting as an emergency regulation in 2005, California was the first state to adopt a heat illness prevention regulation to protect outdoor workers.  David will cover the history of the regulation, its requirements, and the Court of Appeal’s August 2018 decision covering AC Transit bus operators.

David started work for Cal/OSHA in 2009 as a compliance officer in the Oakland.  He spent his first summers with Cal/OSHA performing heat inspections.  He is currently the Statewide Heat Program Coordinator.   David received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 and a Master in Public Health in 2007 from UC Berkeley.  David is a Certified Industrial Hygienist.

Dave represents management in employment and labor law, with more than thirty-five years of experience in personnel law, wrongful termination, discrimination and harassment claims, wage and hour issues, issues relating to union organization, contract negotiations and handling of strikes and unfair labor practice charges.

A major part of Dave’s practice focuses on preventing claims against employers. This is accomplished through drafting of employment documents including applications, employee handbooks, disciplinary and termination forms, as well as onsite training for employers and management. Preventative and consulting work for employers enables Dave’s clients to anticipate problems that may arise and avoid claims of unlawful conduct and/or establish defenses needed to defeat such claims if they are brought by employees.
