Jerry Bach, CSHM
Jerry Bach, Safety Center Vice President of Workplace Safety& Health since 1989, helps Safety Center update and develop new programs by being involved with Cal-OSHA and other professional organizations where providing a safe and healthy work environment is a priority. He has over 20 years experience providing training in both the private and public sectors in defensive driving, general safety training and mobile equipment training.
Ben Martinez, Assistant Vice President
Ben Martinez is Safety Center’s Assistant Vice President of Workplace Safety & Health. Ben has a B.S. in Engineering Management and brings over 20 years of safety management experience in the public utility sector. He is a Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) and was instrumental for developing one of the first templates used statewide in California to help organizations comply with the original IIPP requirements of SB 198 passed in 1994.
Ron Lee, Staff Instructor
Holding a B.S. in Organizational Behavior with a focus on Training and Development, Ron Lee is able to understand how learners are motivated and what brings about real change in workplace habits and safety. His past experience includes leadership positions in Manufacturing, Construction Equipment operation and National Management Training for an Industrial, Construction and Architectural sales force. Ron is a Certified Walkway Analyst with the National Flooring Institute and is an IVES certified Mobile Equipment Instructor.
Joel Flowers spent 33 years in commercial construction where he began his career as a laborer and then worked as a superintendent for the last decade. This experience helps him to relate to the day-to-day challenges of maintaining safe work site procedures, as a worker “in the trenches,” and from the management perspective. His passion for safety and use of “real world” situations engages participants and increases their understanding of workplace hazard prevention.
Annette Pleis, CSMS
Annette Pleis is a Certified Safety Management Specialist (CSMS) who has been in the safety & health field for over 15 years in both the public and private sector. She has created, implemented and facilitated education programs and is well-known for her practical approach and realism. Annette teaches a wide variety of subjects, including: First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Conflict Resolution, Alcohol & Drug Awareness, Traffic Control and Flagging, Mobile Equipment, Presentations, Effective Communication, General Industry 10/30, and Safety Management Specialist Courses.
Michael Estep, PhD
Mike Estep “Dr. Mike”, of RescueTech, provides highly technical training courses with passion and a skill that helps even novice students comprehend the complex subject matter. He utilizes his experience as a California State Fire Marshal Instructor to give student’s practical understanding of confined space training, hazardous materials and other workplace safety issues.
Steve Lloyd has been instrumental in training EMS personnel for the last 20 years, with a diverse background including his 30 year career in the Fire/EMS service and a 15 year involvement with Federal Disaster Medical Response Teams. First Aid, CPR, AED, CERT, EMT, Multi-Casualty and Paramedic preceptor are areas which Steve has been a trainer. His current instructor certifications are with Medic First Aid, National Safety Council, ECSI, and AHA. With 30 years experience as CA Certified Paramedic and over 20,000 documented responses, including working Ground Zero posts 9-11, Hurricanes’ Katrina/Rita, Ike, Ivan, and the Salt Lake/Park City Olympics. In addition, Steve provides workplace safety training, including Confined Space Entry and Rescue, and Traffic Control & Flagging, instruction.
Joe Gurican, OHST, CFI, CECM
Joe Gurican incorporates “real world” examples from his long career in safety and risk management and includes “hands on” training to develop skills to improve worker safety. He has over 40 years experience in occupational health and safety, fire protection, construction safety, emergency response, including workers’ compensation, property, and liability insurance.
Steve Young, CSMS, REA, RSP
Stephen Young, retired Battalion Chief and City Safety Officer has over 28 years of Emergency Response experience, responding to dynamic situations in many unique and unpredictable scenarios and extensive experience in all aspects of managing safety programs. Steve is a State of California Hazardous Materials Specialist, and an expert trainer in Confined Spaces, Supervisor Safety, DOT Reasonable Suspicion, and First Aid/CPR.
Richard has conducted General Industry Safety Training Courses for over 18 years, with a focus on Hazardous Materials Response and Forklift and Aerial Lift Operator training, and over 30 years experience in public safety, training and developing emergency personnel.
Myron Brown delivers complex safety concepts in an easily understandable way for students throughout his over 15 years in the health and safety field. He fully engages students to ensure they have a true understanding of the training topics.
Robert Wasley, CSP
Robert Wasley specializes in hazardous material training for both private industry and local government agencies. He has worked with Safety Center Incorporated for nearly 10 years to provide high quality training and compliance related services.
Mr. Robert Fernandez is an experienced instructor in environmental health and safety programs for the workplace. He has been in the field for 30 years and also teaches for the OSHA Training Institute at University of California San Diego (UCSD). Robert is a California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) Instructor HAZWOPER Trainer, and a Director/Trainer for EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency.)
Bob Lapidus, CSP, CSMS
Bob Lapidus has been in the safety management field since 1968, and his expertise helped the Safety Center to develop its Professional Safety Institute, which provides a foundation for organizations who are striving for excellence and professionalism in their safety management program. His practical approach is effective in helping safety professionals reduce injuries and prevent property damage by implementing a well managed safety program.
Herbert Bell, CHMM, CSP
Herbert Bell has over 20 years experience in the field of environmental, health and safety. Herb holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He uses his experience in biochemical, construction, transportation and utilities to develop training modules and conduct environmental and safety audits.
